Cropton Class Page
Cropton Forest are taught by Mr Evans. The teaching assistants linked to this class are Mr Trickett Mrs Van Velzen and Mrs Acaster.
During their time in Cropton Class, children will follow a two-year topic cycle, meaning they will explore different content in Year 5 and Year 6. This year, the main topics include The Ancient Greeks, The Mayan Civilisation, Rivers, Sustainability, and Brazil. Each topic is rooted in either Science, History, or Geography, providing a strong foundation across the curriculum.
We follow the Talk for Writing approach in English, which allows children to become fully immersed in a text while encouraging creativity and self-expression. In addition to working with model texts, we will explore a variety of books throughout the year during guided reading sessions, as well as reading for pleasure. This year’s guided reading texts include Thornhill, Skellig, Oranges in No Man’s Land, The Clockwork Crow, and The Boy in the Girl’s Bathroom.
Throughout the year, children will have the chance to participate in a variety of challenging, engaging, and exciting lessons, such as sports, outdoor learning days, themed events, and collaborative projects within the school community.
