The Use and Impact of Sports Premium
Background
The Government is currently providing additional funding of £150 million per annum to provide substantial primary school sport funding in order to improve the provision of physical education and sport in primary schools. This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to schools to be spent on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. All state-maintained schools, academies, middle schools, special schools and pupil referral units which have primary aged pupils will receive the funding.

This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on provision for PE and sport in schools. As a school, we will be held accountable for how we have used the additional funding to support pupils progress and participation in PE and school sport. We are required to publish on-line information about how we have used the additional funding, including details about our sporting provision alongside curriculum details. This will ensure that parents/carers and others are made fully aware of the PE and sporting provision at Airmyn Park Primary School.

Allocation each year is in the region of: £16000

How will we be spending the Sports Premium funding:
We believe in a holistic approach to the development of sport and physical activity for all and encourage collaboration and partnership working to make the best use of resources and enhance PE and sport provision in order to raise participation and achievement for all pupils.
We also believe that PE develops the character of children and promotes good values. These values include: confidence, respect, responsibility, resilience, reflection and communication.

Our rationale for the use of Sports Premium funding is it must be used so that:
•    all children benefit regardless of sporting ability
•    children are given the opportunity to compete in tournaments/ competitions with other schools
•    staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development
•    some activities may be subsidised so that pupils do not miss out owing to financial constraints e.g. OAA/Swimming/Residential
•    we make use of collaborative and partnership skills and competitions.

Working with the above rationale in mind, and following the guidelines for how to spend this money, our initial plans for the use of the Sports Premium funding include:
•    Investment in the professional development of staff at our school so they are best equipped to teach high quality Physical Education and school sport for years to come. This will include providing cover to release staff for professional development in PE and sport.
•    Continued membership of the local School Sport Partnership.
•    Supporting and engaging all children through new or additional sports clubs.
•    Increasing the amount of competitive sport in which our children participate – running sport competitions and increasing pupils’ participation in the School Games and inter school competitions. •    Continuing to take part in local sports competitions/events organised by East Riding School Sport Partnership.
•    Hiring qualified sports coaches to work alongside staff for short PE modules eg. Yorkshire Cricket coaches.
•    Making links to other community sports providers – encouraging pupils to join out of school sports clubs.

•    Development of staff and PE policy in line with the new curriculum.
•    Purchasing equipment to offer access to new sports and physical activities as relevant.
•    Investment in high quality resources and equipment.

Impact
We will look at how well we use our Sport Premium to improve the quality and breadth of PE and sporting provision, including increasing participation in PE and sport so that all pupils develop healthy lifestyles and reach the performance levels they are capable of.
Measuring the impact of the activities provided with sports premium funding can be achieved in different ways. We will look at progress in PE as well as other areas of development such as self-esteem, confidence and the numbers of pupils involved in sporting activities in and out of school. Assessments are made both formally and informally using our school assessment systems as well as feedback from staff, children, parents and visitors to the school.
